Last 21 April, Rome celebrated the “Birth of Rome”, for the 2762nd time in its long history.
An event bustling with cultural highlights for the “Eternal City”, including exhibitions, special openings of the Capitoline Museums, and the inauguration of a new visitors’ path around the Imperial Forums.
As Mayor Gianni Alemanno stressed, the “Birth of Rome” is no mere rhetorical or static celebration, but is instead an example of how Rome, long a fountainhead of civilization, continues to maintain its capacity to create iconic images and symbols that spread the whole world over, and above all how the city can reinvent itself and let itself be rediscovered under an ever-changing light.
And light was the challenge chosen by the city administration to offer a new view of one of the capital’s most intriguing attractions: the Imperial Forums.
Light, applied with refined control over intensity and carefully selected colours, now gives a new perspective to this monumental site, restoring its centrality in the urban context and opening it up to the full advantage of both citizens and visitors.
The official inauguration and first installation light-up were at 9 pm, followed by the show “Romagnificat – Light from the Forums”.

The installation was commissioned by architect Maurizio Anastasi of Rome’s Superintendency for Cultural Heritage.
The lighting design project was created by architects Corrado Terzi and Adriana Annunziata of Studio Terzi & Annunziata, Rome.
Coordination of installation work and the programming of the DTS LED projectors were provided by Brain Of Lights.

DTS products were installed in five main areas:
27 FOCUS WHITE / 1 HELIOS FULL COLOUR fixed at ground level and aimed at various individual features in different points of the site.
3 FOS 33 WHITE hooked onto the top of the protective netting of the statue of St Peter, at a height of 35 metres, aimed at the statue.
7 HELIOS monochromatic (blue) / 16 HELIOS WHITE installed along the outer wall at a height of 4 metres, aimed at the capitals of the columns.
3 TITAN WHITE installed on vertical supports at a height of 1.2 metres.
21 HELIOS WHITE fixed at ground level and aimed upwards along the columns.
4 HELIOS WHITE fixed at ground level and aimed at the base of Trajan’s Column.
