Overview
Le Grand T is a reference place for the theater in the Nantes area; it collaborates with many cultural organizations in France and it’s committed to promote culture in the whole region. In addition to a large hall, the structure includes a restaurant and a library. ESL was entrusted the task to install a completely new lighting system in the theatre to replace the old incandescent lamps. ESL designed and delivered a large network made of TITAN LED projectors, that significantly reduced power consumption and improved light quality. The goal of the project was replacing the incandescent lamps, allowing a better space management with capacity of managing each fixture and different color temperatures keeping the same graduation quality.

Products
To be conform with the design, ESL asked for custom D.T.S. TITAN LED fixtures, with 48 LEDs: 24 amber, 12 white 3200°K and 12 white 4500°K, with separate low voltage PSU. Internal software has been modified to have simple menus, and custom DMX512 functions, to allow even smoother dimming, especially in the 0-20% range. Barndoor and filter frame (to allow the use of Holographic filter) were also added.

Installation
130 TITAN fixtures were installed in 5 lines on the ceiling. One Pharos LPC1 controller and 33 PSU’s were also used (in ceiling electrical bays on each lines of fixtures). Light can be controlled through the ETC ACN network with AVAB light desk, with small 6 channels desks controlling groups and presets on the Pharos, through a web interface including ethernet distant access. Fixtures can be individually controlled in a matrix.

Benefits
Power consumption has been reduced by a factor of 11, maintaining the same level of luminosity. Also, the new lighting system shows various improvements in light quality, such as an even diffusion of light over the seats, and an easily manageable color temperature range between 2800° and 6000° K. The forecasted long-time advantages resulting from the installation are: virtually zero-maintenance, no re-lamping needed because of LEDs’ long life, energy saving, more flexibility of control (colour temperature, dimming).
