Overview
The “Long Night of the Churches” took place on May 28th. Over 730 Austrian churches stayed open for the celebration, which included over 3.500 events and 350.000 visitors. The event gave the churches the opportunity to offer their inner wealth even to those who have few contacts with them. The ‘Kaleidoscope of faith’ installation, designed by Michael Kantrowitsch held in the St. Mary's Cathedral, Linz, was the highlight of this spiritual festival, that offered music, meditation and scenic play. The Linz event was attended by more than 70.000 visitors.
Installation
76 FOS 33 FULL COLOUR illuminated all pillars of the cathedral from two sides. This way the effect was visible from any viewing position. 40 FOS 100 FULL COLOUR plus 30 DELTA FULL COLOUR R and DELTA FULL COLOUR B coloured the arches, domes and windows of the apse. 10 XR2000 SPOT moving heads were used to light the altar, where the artists performed. One XR2000 was placed behind the altar to back-lit the cross; the dramatic effect was reinforced also by 8 XR300 BEAM FAR who were also positioned behind the high altar, projecting onto the ceiling. Outside, the cathedral, its entrance portal and the 135 meter high tower were also illuminated by the high-power DTS XR3000 SPOT moving head projectors.
